Willem Abelen

He leads the jazz quintet FLUX, whose second album Everything Is Fine, a through-composed concept album about AI and technology, is out now. Other current projects include Superordinate, an album with guitarist Tom Veltien, a duo with harpist Sara Brink-Nielsen, the Afro-Cuban dance machine Longo Longo, and horn section work for artists such as Gus Walker, Supermoon and Benjamin Fro.

As a sideman he has recorded and performed with Son Mieux, Kraak & Smaak, DeWolff and Marlon Pichel, and shared the stage with Seamus Blake, Michael League and Jamison Ross, as well as Benjamin Herman, Jan van Duikeren, Kika Sprangers, Jamie Peet, Reinier Baas and Tijn Wybenga.

Alongside the music, Willem writes: a Dutch-language Substack about life as a musician, and freelance copy. He also works on the publicity team of the BIMHUIS in Amsterdam.
